- Update the address on you drivers licence, pet licence, car registration
- Inform your bank and credit card companies, as well as your insurance agents (car, home, life, health)
- Contact the following service providers to have the service turned off or changed over to your new address: Cable/satellite TV, phone, cellular phone, internet, gas, water, electricity
- Advise the following professionals: doctors, dentist, veterinarians, accountant, financial advisor, and stockbroker

Carry following items with you instead of leaving them with your movers
- Cash, stock and bond certificates
- Wills and other legal paperwork
- Mortgage paperwork, lease
- Jewelry and other valuables
- Family photos, videos, or other mementos
